Presentation of prizes for the Siboney Narrative and Painting Competition

Last week, the Canis Majoris Foundation presented the Prizes of the VII Edition of the Siboney Narrative and Painting Prize. This year has been a special delivery due to the prevention measures in relation to COVID-19, impeding us from celebrating our traditional act of delivery in each of the participating centers. Nonetheless, we aimed to ensure that each and every one of the children who participated, received their prize before starting their vacation. The prizes, which consisted of drawing and reading material, were awarded to the 37 participants according to the category in which they were awarded.

In a situation such as the one we have experienced due to the pandemic, the Foundation has had to adapt and redesign our programs to continue offering the same service.

One of the programs that we successfully redesigned was the Siboney Prize for Narrative and Painting and in this context we launched the VII call. The call was very well received by the centers and their participants, these being minors at risk of social exclusion supervised by the Community of Madrid, who produced the entries of the contest during this time of confinement at home.

Despite all the inconveniences that confinement has entailed for these children aged between 6 and 17, the same hopeful expectation of previous years has been put into the elaboration of stories and drawings, organizing themselves with the tasks that they were set by their respective schools. The works carried out will be compiled and published in the IV Edition of “Siboney Tales”, maintaining their originality and writing of each story and the drawing made.

Our thanks to the centers that have participated, for their dedication and for making things so easy even in the most difficult of moments, to the coordinator of the Competition, the plastic artist Paloma Johansson, who has put the same love or if possible even more than other years in the organization of the Awards, to our dear collaborators Pilar Pérez and José A. Villota, who despite being unable to participate this year, we have given their full support from a distance, and finally to the participants, the true protagonists of this activity, for all the effort and enthusiasm they have dedicated this unique year.
